FAQ

HOW DO I JOIN SWS?

Recruitment starts at the beginning of every semester. You can attend our Info Session to learn more about our organization from our members. Once we review your application, you may be invited to interview for the chance to be part of that year’s Seminar Series. Keep in mind that you do not have to be a member to benefit from our club’s opportunities, as we hold many educational or professional development events open to the entire undergraduate campus.

ARE THE EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS AND STOCK PITCHES OPEN TO PUBLIC?

Our general meetings are open to the JHU community and stock pitches are open to the SWS community, SWS general members, and alumni.

DO I NEED TO ALREADY KNOW ABOUT INVESTING AND FINANCIAL MODELING TO JOIN?

No, the beauty of SWS is its focus on education. We will teach you everything you need to know to start successfully using the Bloomberg Terminal, researching companies, developing financial models, and pitching investments. We also bring in speakers from the finance industry to give guest lectures on all aspects of personal finance and investing.

HOW MUCH OF A TIME COMMITMENT IS SWS?

Our general members typically meet once a week for 1-1.5 hours for the seminar series with additional guest speakers peppered throughout the semester. For the investment project, groups are expected to work outside of meetings to prepare for their pitch. Members of the Investment Team are expected to pitch once a semester as well as attend weekly meetings to evaluate pitches and continue learning about more in-depth financial modeling.

Time commitment for the Executive Board and Committee members can range between 2-4 hours per week.
